ABOUT US
Namibia Chemicals is a chemical producing company based in Walvis Bay founded in 2015 by Immanuel Hango, a Civil Engineer by profession who also holds an MBA in entrepreneurship from Steinbeis University, Berlin. Through this company, he innovated and patented a solution to produce chlorine for water purification (to fight cholera) by electrolyzing salt using solar. His idea was selected Semi-finalists in the Technology Idea GIST (Tech-I) 2015 competition by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the US Department of State. Immanuel has since given a Ted talk about his innovation solution and in 2016, he met President Barack Obama in Washington as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders program. In May 2017 he was invited to Pitch at Oxford Africa Conference’s Innovation Fair and in 2018, his startup was selected as the finalist for Dubai Expo Live Innovation Impact Grant. Namibia chemicals was also selected as one of the 50 top innovators who exhibited their solutions at the African Innovation Fair 2018, held in Kigali.
CHLORINE
We innovated a chlorine production process of electrolysing salt using solar energy as a means to fight cholera.
ELECTROLYSIS
Distilled water is mixed with a high quality salt(NaCL2) to form a brine solution that goes through an electrolysis process, that separate chlorine from sodium.
SOLAR ENERGY
The source of power is renewable solar energy (PV) installed on the roof top supplying about 470Kwh of A/C power per day.
HOW WE DO IT
About 1000 liters of 12% concentration of sodium hypochlorite is prodced per day in our mini plant.
WATER PURIFICATION
We produce chlorine for water purification by electrolysing salt using Solar Energy in an environmentally friendly manner.
